The ShinerGroup

The ShinerGroup is a consulting firm that helps contractors gain financial control of their companies. We provide management consulting and coaching to help contractors better understand and improve their business practices and maximize profits. We believe training and education are instrumental to the success of those in the contracting field. Combining our knowledge of construction management with our passion for education, we work onsite or remotely to teach contractors to identify and eliminate inefficiencies, misconceptions, or poor practices that prevent them from making the profit their hard work should produce.

Leslie Shiner

Leslie Shiner—author, speaker, and trainer—has more than twenty years’ experience as a financial and management consultant. She is also the author of numerous publications that focus on the construction industry including A Simple Guide to Turning A Profit as a Contractor. Ms Shiner is an engaging speaker with a long history of rave reviews. She continues to receive high praise for her ability to make financial management interesting, understandable, and even entertaining.

Ms. Shiner’s post-graduate education focused on Finance and Accounting culminating in an MBA from UC Berkeley. Ms. Shiner has combined her knowledge of construction management with her passion for education. Ms. Shiner has been the keynote speaker at the Sleeter Conference and at the ABC of Wisconsin Winter Convention. Ms. Shiner’s past speaking engagements have included the Remodeling Show, JLC Live, the International Builders Show, the World of Concrete, the Southern Building Show, CEDIA Expo, International Roofing Show, and the Southeast Builders Conference to name a few.

Leslie was recently named one of CEDIA’s Overall Top Instructors. Ms. Shiner has taught as Adjunct Faculty both at the California State University System and Dominican University.

Melanie Hodgdon

Melanie HodgdonMelanie Hodgdon is President of Business Systems Management, Inc. of Bristol, Maine. She works with clients to identify financial and procedural challenges and to generate realistic solutions that reflect the resources and style of their companies. With a background in teaching, construction, CAD, and computerized accounting, she has made the construction industry her specialty area. Melanie writes for Journal of Light Construction and Remodeling magazines, speaks on business and QuickBooks topics at construction shows, and is a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor. For the past fifteen years she has worked with builders and remodelers across the country.
